Port Alfred holiday accommodation establishments contact details
Port Alfred is situated at the mouth of the Kowie River and is exactly halfway between Port Elizabeth and East London. The town was originally known as Port Kowie, then Port Frances and was finally called Port Alfred to commemorate the visit of Queen Victoria’s son in 1860. In 1870 the government develops the mouth into a Harbour and it was in its heyday for about twenty years, but fell into disuse in the 1890’s.
