Hogsback holiday accommodation establishments contact details
The first Europeans at Hogsback were soldiers stationed to keep watch over the Xhosa tribes. The outline of Fort Mitchell and the first road from FortHare to the slopes of the Tor Doone is still visible. There are two theories as to how Hogsback got its name. First it was named after Captain Hogg, commander of Fort Mitchell and second, there are three peaks that overlook the village, when seen from a certain angle, looks like a hog’s back. Hogsback also has an interesting waterfall called the Kettle spout. When the wind is strong, this waterfall can be blown upwards about ten meters, curling back on it.
