Douglas holiday accommodation establishments contact details
Nicholas Waterboer, the Griqua chief gave a group of European settlers permission in 1867 to establish a town here. The town became a municipality in 1905 and is named after sir Percy Douglas, Lieutenant General of the Cape. There are engraved rocks on the Driekops Island in the Riet River and when the river is in flood the engravings are buried under water.
