Cookhouse holiday accommodation establishments contact details
Although the origin of the name remains uncertain, many believe Cookhouse was named after a small stone kitchen erected by garrison troops during the frontier wars. The remains are gone and today Cookhouse is best known as a railway junction. In 1880 a railway line was build that stretched from Port Elizabeth to Kimberley. Cookhouse is dominated by the 1401m high Glen Avon Heads, which is the site of a part of the Orange river project that diverts water from the Great Fish to the Sundays river.
